Optimise Instagram for Success

In this article, you'll learn:

  • What to include in your Instagram bio.
  • What not to include.

=============================

Since we launched HFA 6 months ago, I have looked at hundreds of Instagram profiles.

It's clear that in a lot of cases, people don't put the necessary time into crafting a bio which benefits their business.

Does it really matter?

Think about it, when you post on Instagram and reach a new audience, the first thing you want them to do is to engage with your post - which I'm sure you'll agree is not easy.

After that, you want them to visit your profile.

Then, you want them to click a link in your profile to go to your website.

If you can get someone to do all 3 of these then you are well on your way to converting that person into a follower, or even a customer.

So, you've managed to get them to engage with your post, they have clicked through to your profile and are faced with the same old, uninspiring bio which everyone uses, something like this:

No one cares that you're hand-poured and use soy wax - most people do.

No one cares that you're CLP compliant - it doesn't mean anything to the general public and, if you're in the UK, you have to be CLP compliant to sell these products anyway.

No one cares that you make them from home in Cornwall.

I know this sounds harsh, but you are here to learn how to improve your business, and I'm not going to lie to you.

Don't waste this valuable real estate space.

The person who is viewing your profile are already likely to be interested in what you're selling, so, now is the time to truly convince them that you're the company for them.

Therefore you want to use this space to:

  • Answer a pain-point they might have.
  • Share an offer they can't refuse.

This is what we have for Cosy Aromas:

It's thought-provoking and helps to address a pain point "packed full of a strong scent you're looking for". Then a simple click to find out more about us - nothing sales related.

Or, take a look at what we do for Craft HQ:

We highlight a crazy offer they can't resist; we tell them who the products are for, we let them know that we are unique and we offer free CLP labels.

So, take a look at your own Instagram bio and try to read it from a potential customers point of view. Is it the same as they see everywhere else? Do you give them a reason to follow you? Are you sharing anything which no one will care about?

See what improvements you can make.

On the 1st March, we're launching a brand new course - The Business Roadmap. Make sure you become a member to access this.
