Communicating directly with customers is always a good idea as it helps you get valuable feedback and therefore allows you to improve your business.

Imagine if you could do this in real time?

That's one reason why live video is such a good tool for your business.

I know what you're thinking; "I'm not confident enough to do that". Don't worry, I'll come onto that shortly.

In today's world, more and more of your competitors are going live and engaging with their audiences. You mustn't get left behind here.

You want to grow your business, right? That's why you're reading this newsletter now. You should therefore integrate live video into your marketing strategy.

Here's why:

  • Going live allows you to talk directly to a group of your customers. They are giving you their undivided attention. Imagine how lucky we are to have this available to us.
  • You build a 1-2-1 connection with your customers, they can put a face to a name, you can get to know them and build that brand loyalty.
  • If you host a live shopping event you can get a big influx of orders within a very short space of time.

There's no negative reason as to why you shouldn't go live.

Are you nervous about going live? We were too, it's not natural for us to do this so it's expected. However:

  • These are your customers you're chatting to. They already love your products and are excited to talk to you, they are not 'strangers'.
  • You don't have to be on camera talking directly into it the whole time. Just set up a live video whilst you're making your products - customers LOVE this as they are very interested in seeing behind the scenes.
  • Encourage your friends and family to watch and comment on your video. This gives you questions to answer and things to talk about. This is a great way to ease you into it.
  • Ensure you have something specific to talk about, such as a new product launch. Have music in the background to make it feel more relaxing. Then answer all comments and questions which come in after your announcement.

If you haven't hosted a live video before, then I encourage you to do this. Go live on Instagram, in your Facebook Group or on your Facebook page and just chat with people.

You don't need anything fancy, just hold your phone and have a chat. It's so much easier than you think. When you get this first one out of the way, you'll look forward to the next.

Already used to going live? Here's how to host a live shop:

You need an audience.
I love doing live shops in our closed Facebook Group for our home fragrance brand. It’s a group of 9.5k people who know, like and trust us, which makes selling to them easy. You need to ensure you have an audience - it certainly doesn’t have to be a big audience, just as long as they know, like and trust you.

Your platform.
We prefer to host the live shop on Facebook. This is where we go live as a video, but in the video description, we have a link to the product we want people to buy on our website. If you decide to use TikTok, you can set up a TikTok seller’s account (very easy; see YouTube) and sell that way.

Promote in advance.
Let your customers know when you’re going live, about 24-48 hours in advance, via social media and email.

Have an exclusive product.
To maximise sales, include an exclusive product they can only buy during your live shopping event. This helps to increase impulse buys.

Pack on camera.
Packing the orders as they come in is an excellent way to keep yourself busy while on camera. This keeps customers engaged, as they love seeing their orders picked. It also gives you a constant stream of things to talk about.

Do you host live videos or live shops?
